A huge shoutout to our 5th Grade Peer Mediators for all of their help this year!

The Fourth-Grade students marked Pioneer Day on Tuesday with lessons about Colorado History with pioneer experiences, butter making, candle making, and storytelling. The Brompton Family brought a small team of oxen and a small wagon to teach the kids about travel as pioneers, and how small the wagons actually were by squeezing them into a true to size template. They also did some campfire singing and wagon races. Jaci Wagner, The Family and Consumer Agent from the Logan County Extension Agency had the 4th graders experience how to make butter and then tasting it on crackers. They worked in groups shaking a jar of heavy whipping cream until it turned into creamy butter. Jaci, explained the process from cream to butter. Brad Hamilton, a Park Ranger from The North Sterling State Park, shared artifacts the pioneers used for survival from animals. JoAnn Conter shared her love of humorous, family friendly tall tales getting laughs from the students. Ashley Reimers and Tonya Wilson helped the kids make hand-dipped candles to show them how pioneers made their own candles for lighting. Peggy Traphagan from Yuma generously donated most of the candle making supplies to help get us started. Ardi Hendrix from the Wray Museum and Jill Artzer, a former Campbell teacher, did a History Take Out Program called, Moving Day: Colorado’s Migration Story. Students explored the movement of people across Colorado from prehistory to 1870 and became “experts "on each of these cultural groups including Ancestral Puebloans, Mountain Men, Miners, Utes, Plains Indians and Hispanos. A” Big Thank You” to all of the presenters and to the parents and grandparents for helping make this Pioneer Day a fun event for the Fourth Graders. We couldn’t have done it without you!

-Attention Parents/Guardians of 5th Grade Students-

Our 3rd grade students were offered an on-site field trip experience for their Native American Unit yesterday! The 3rd grade teachers put together fun, interactive stations that consisted of tanning hides, drumming, cooking fry bread, and Native American games. We were also fortunate to have Park Ranger Hamilton give a presentation featuring buffalo artifact. Thank you to our parent volunteers including Callie Stanley, who brought a teepee, hides and skulls for our students to experience. We ended the day back in the classroom with an Eskimo treat! A few of the Tribe's studied were: Maidu Inuit Sioux Navajo

From Miss Prelle- "This is the Sources of Strength BrainTree. Thinking of the brain as a tree helps us better understand how our brain is connected and works to keep us healthy. The leaves of the tree, representing the frontal lobe, were added by students throughout the second semester of this school year. Students wrote on the leaves whenever they learned about a new strength from the wheel."

Let’s congratulate our top three winners of the First Annual 3rd Grade Multiplication Bee! Every third grader, who was present, on Friday (May 12th) took the preliminary test and the few top winners in every class took the final the following Monday. The test was 5 minutes for 100 facts (0’s-12’s). FIRST PLACE goes to Braylen Busmente from Mrs. Wheeler’s class with a 100% SECOND PLACE goes to Jaykob Boozle from Mr. Serrato’s class with a 99% THIRD PLACE goes to Jaxon Gardiner from Mrs. Wheeler’s With a 98% This was some tough competition. So proud of them all!
