On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Sterling High School officials and law enforcement responded to an incident at Sterling High School involving a student found in possession of a very realistic, non-functioning replica of a handgun. While there was no immediate danger to students or staff, law enforcement took swift action to ensure the safety of our school community. This was an isolated incident with no credible threat identified.

The student was taken into custody by the Sterling Police Department and is currently facing legal and disciplinary consequences in accordance with school policies and state law. We want to assure parents, students, and staff that we take any potential threat seriously and remain committed to maintaining a safe learning environment.

We encourage families to speak with their children about the importance of reporting concerns to school officials. If you have any questions or information related to this incident, please contact Jeff Hoff, SHS Principal.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our schools safe.

Dr. Marty Foster

Superintendent of Schools
